Tribal Sangha demand on vacant posts

The All Assam Tribal Sangha has demanded special steps to accommodate the scheduled tribe (ST) and scheduled caste (SC) candidates against the 15,000 reserved posts that are lying vacant in various State government departments for the past several years.

The Welfare of the Plains Tribes and Backward Classes (WPT and BC) Department had, at the meeting of its advisory council on May 19 last, decided to direct the State government departments to take steps for the purpose of filling up these vacancies.
But to accomplish this, the State government should adopt a special absorption scheme by amending Clause 5.1 of the 1983 Rule of the amended Assam Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Reservation of Vacancies in Services and Posts) Act, 2013 to relax the provision of Zone Consideration, so that the vacant posts could be filled up through promotion, said the Tribal Sangha.

In different departments of the State government the backlog posts under the legislation for reservation for the ST (Plains) stand at 5,107, while the backlog posts for the ST (Hills) under the same legislation stand at 7,048. The total number of backlog posts for the SC candidates in the State government departments stands at 2,845.

These backlog posts mostly belong to the departments of water resources, public works, education, home and health, said the Tribal Sangha.

UPSC RESULTS 2016 OF NORTH EAST

At least 22 candidates from Northeast have cleared the Indian Civil Services (Mains) Examinations, 2016, conducted by the Union Public Service Commission.

Those who cleared the examination from Assam are Kapinjal Kishore Sarma, Dipankar Gogoi, Tapan Deka, Yashodhara Das, Dipjyoti Das, Mamoni Doley, Abhijit Pegu, Bidisha Chintey, Dipankar Nath, Seuj Saikia, Bandana Deuri and Manoj Swargiary.

Three women from Arunachal Pradesh cleared the exam – Mamu Hage (all-India rank 691), Chajat Lowang (857) and Duyu Kampu (1081).

Four candidates from Manipur have cleared the exam. They are Sanjenbam Sadananda (616), Kshetrimayum Ravikumar (769), Esther Laltankim Serto (1075) and Yow Peter Raiphea (1080).

Suchismita Kanungoe from Tripura has secured 261 rank in the examination, while Tarit Kanti Chakma of the state secured 730 rank.

Henuka Rai from Gangtok, Sikkim have cleared the exam. She is a PhD scholar and has studied from Indian Agricultural Research Institute in New Delhi.

The written test for the civil services examination was held in December 2016, followed by interviews for personality test between March and May this year.

Nandini K.R. of Karnataka bagged the top rank in the UPSC 2016 examination, followed by Anmol Sher Singh Bedi and Gopalakrishna Ronanki, at second and third place.

A total of 1,099 candidates have been recommended for appointment, besides a consolidated Reserve List of 172 candidates.

From among the recommended candidates, 500 belong to General Category and 347 to Other Backward Class (OBC). The share of Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates comprises 163 and 80 candidates, respectively. The selected candidates will be placed across vacant positions in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Central Services Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’.
